TEN SABINE GRAPHI-QS MAKE MONITORS SOUND BEST

Al Bryant gazed upon a fellow engineer's monitor rack filled with Sabine Graphi-Qs and knew that was the answer for the soon to be opened Georgia Ballroom at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC).

"I was very impressed with what the monitor engineer could do with the Graphi-Qs," states Bryant, Senior Audio Technician for the GWCC. "When I matched the Graphi-Q's price with all the functions available in a 1-U rack space," he continues, "I knew I needed them for my monitor mix at the Georgia Ballroom."

The GWCC's Phase IV expansion includes the 25,700-square foot Georgia Ballroom; wherein Bryant controls 10 Meyer monitor wedges with a dedicated Sabine GRQ3101 Multifunction Digital Signal Processor for each. The Graphi-Qs are inserted into the mix and handle feedback control, equalization and compression.

"I am very happy with the Graphi-Qs," states Bryant. "I have used some of the other feedback controllers and I am not as impressed with them," he continues. "They are not as user-friendly as the Graphi-Q, and they don't do the job as well. Graphi-Qs have the features I want at the right price, and they get the job done."

THE MOST IMPORTANT EARS IN THE HOUSE
Rock'n'Road Audio (Atlanta, GA) uses Graphi-Qs to keep performers playing their best.
"The guy in row 14 who paid $50 for his ticket is my boss," states Jim "Jid" O'Brien, monitor engineer for Atlanta-based Rock'n'Road Audio, Inc. "And to make him happy, I use my Graphi-Qs to keep the performers playing at their best."

O'Brien, who operated Rock'n'Road's FOH system for Hank Williams Jr. and Travis Tritt for many years, now specializes in monitor control for Peabo Bryson and Rock'n'Road. "Our monitor EQ racks are filled with the best names in the industry," confides O'Brien. "But with the Graphi-Q EQ rack, I know that I can make very minute adjustments on the fly using my laptop and the Sabine software.”

Rock'n'Road monitor engineers enjoy the power, flexibility and ease-of-use of the Sabine software. "Sabine software makes our job so much easier," asserts O'Brien. "For example, with the digital delay you can make your adjustments in milliseconds, feet or meters
and there's even a temperature adjustment with Fahrenheit or centigrade scales," he exclaims. "Furthermore, I can move from one daisy-chained Graphi-Q to the next with a simple key stroke, sharing or linking all my settings as I go."

Q-Tips
USING GRQ PRESETS TO QUICKEN SETUP TIME
Situation: You just got one of ten Meyer vocal monitor wedges set up ... and now you have nine more to go?

Solution: The Graphi-Q allows users to store and recall settings two ways, either within the unit, or as an external file for other units to use. For this situation, we'll create an external file to serve as a template for the nine remaining vocal wedges.

HERE'S HOW:

1. Adjust Graphi-Q settings.
Graphi-Q settings can be adjusted via front panel or software.

2. In File Menu, select "Save The Current Preset..."

3. Name and Save the file.

4. Select the next Graphi-Q.
Either pull down from the Select GraphiQ menu or use Ctrl+A, Ctrl+B, Ctrl+C, etc.

5. Select "Load a Single Preset..." from the Options menu (F6).
Find your preset and click "Open."
*

One minute later, and all 10 Meryers are ready for any final tweaking!

* This preset can also be saved onto the individual Graphi-Q's internal memory by opening the "Stored Presets" window from the Options menu (F6), selecting a preset location and clicking "Save." The preset location can then be given a name.

In an upcoming Sabine E-zine we will show you how to perform a similar time-saving step by linking the Graphi-Qs in your chain so, stay tuned!
