GRAPHI-Q Saves Danish Ferryboat from Structural Overhaul

ALACHUA, FLORIDA - The quest for bigger, better and louder almost put the Danish ferryboat Christian IV out of service for expensive structural repairs-that is, until Sabine's GRAPHI-Q was called in to solve the problem.

The night club on the Christian IV offered such a powerful sound system that the bass frequencies enjoyed by its patrons were disturbing the sleep of passengers three decks away. The GRAPHI-Q's Remote Control Software pinpointed the cause and provided the precise control to solve the problem.

While monitoring the GRAPHI-Q software over the course of an evening's entertainment, Ib Sigismund of Ascon, the Danish distributor of Sabine pro audio products, noticed that certain low frequencies resonated so extremely that they triggered FBX Feedback Exterminator® filters, all clustered between 50-60 Hz.

Using the GRAPHI-Q's Remote Control Software, Sigismund was able to place a very narrow and very deep parametric filter around 55 Hz that both solved the resonance problem, and left the sound system quality intact even for bass-loving DJs.

The only other solution proposed required expensive modifications to the stage construction, decoupling it from the boat surface and damping the bass vibration. With his simple solution, utilizing the exceptional versatility of the GRAPHI-Q, Sigismund saved the client thousands of dollars in unnecessary construction costs. Ascon had already provided the Christian IV with two Sabine GRAPHI-Q GRQ-3102 units for the installation.

The installation contractor for the Christian IV, Musik Huset Hjorring (MMH) was initially attracted to the GRAPHI-Q because of its powerful combination of features-Sabine's industry-leading FBX Feedback Exterminator®, 2-channel compressor, delay, graphic equalizer, parametric equalizer, superb specifications and reasonable cost. The GRAPHI-Q's versatility allows the ship's nightclub to successfully host a variety of applications, from techno raves to meetings requiring only simple vocal microphones at a low volume. The GRAPHI-Q's separate compressor and limiter adjustments allow MMH to boost sound levels for low-volume uses of the sound system and protect speakers from overload when the DJs crank it up.

The FBX section of the GRAPHI-Q protects against feedback when microphones are operated by unsophisticated users, or when the system gain is set to high levels. The programmable and recallable graphic and parametric EQ settings of the GRAPHI-Q enable selection of different EQ curves for different applications. And, finally, the digital delay of the GRAPHI-Q enables time alignment of the multiple speaker clusters needed for even sound distribution throughout the expanse of the large club.
