COM Port Control Settings

  1. RS232-to-USB Adaptor Connection Tips for the SWM7000
Follow the manufacturer's installation/operation procedures to carefully install your RS232/USB adapter. Depending on your operating system, your PC may go through the steps of finding the adaptor's device driver (usually found on the adaptor's installation CD, or if not, from the manufacturer's website).
  2. Connect your SWM7000 to the adapter, turn the Sabine unit on and launch the Sabine receiver's Remote Control Software program on your Windows PC. In the SWM7000 Remote Control initial software startup screen, set the COM Port setting to the setting used by your RS232/USB adaptor. To do this you will need to find out — and possibly change — the COM Port setting for your RS232/USB adapter. Referring to the image below, open up your Control Panel (StartSettingsControl Panel) then:
  1. Double click the System icon to open up your System Properties window.

  2. Click Hardware and then Device Manager in the System Properties window.

  3. Open up Ports (COM & LPT) and look for your USB device and COM Port setting.

  4. If the setting is COM 1, 2, 3 or 4, simply close out of the Control Panel window and select the appropriate COM Port in the Sabine Remote Control software. However, if the COM Port listed for the USB device is greater than 4, you will need to reassign the adapter's COM Port setting. To do this, go back to Ports (COM & LPT) in your Device Manager and double click your RS232/USB adapter. Click Port Settings and then Advanced. You should then be able to select the COM Port (1, 2, 3, or 4) being careful not to select a COM Port already in use on your computer. Take note that Windows will sometimes mark COM Ports as "in use" that actually are available.
