Shows the last filter set by FBX Turbo. This filter can also be seen on the FBX / Parametric graph in the Command View window.
This area gives text message concerning the progress of the FBX Turbo, including warnings in red when the last two filters are set. Get ready to reduce gain when the last filter is set.
Setting FBX filters with the Remote Control Software |
|
Follow
these steps to obtain the maximum gain and protection from feedback: |
||
| 1 |
Place microphone and speakers in primary position. If there is any equipment
in the signal path with a noise gate, you must disengage the noise gates
prior to this setup procedure. You may reengage these gates upon completion
of your FBX setup. |
|
| 2 |
Patch
your Sabine receiver into the mixer or amp channel. Set the amp master
output gain to a normal operating position. NOTE: the level of your power
amplifier should be set to a level that allows a healthy gain structure
prior to the amplifier. If your amplifier is turned up fully, and your
mixer meters show little movement when signal passes through, you will
improve the performance of your sound system and lower system noise by
reducing the gain on your power amp and increasing your mixer gain. FBX
response time will also be better with proper gain structure. |
|
| 3 |
Turn
on your wireless transmitter or handheld microphone, then the wireless
receiver, then the mixer, then any other accessories, and finally the
power amp. If you are using a graphic EQ, adjust only for the desired
tonal qualities, but do not notch for feedback. |
|
| 4 |
With
the microphone turned on, raise the OUTPUT LEVEL of the receiver slowly
until a strong input signal at the mixer is apparent (for starters, try
the Unity Gain setting, 0 dB). The microphone should now be audible. |
|
| 5 |
Now you
are ready to set FBX filters. Click on the SETUP button
in the FBX/Parametric Filters section of the SWM7000 Remote Software Command
View window. A small FBX Turbo Setup window
will appear indicating the current receiver and channel selected for FBX
setup. Click Start to begin FBX setup. IMPORTANT: Do not talk into or
pass program through your system while in FBX Setup Mode. |
|
| 6 |
SLOWLY
raise the gain on the mixer or amp until FBX eliminates the first few
feedback tones. With each new feedback frequency, you will hear a short,
quiet burst of feedback that will disappear immediately as a filter is
set. The FBX Turbo Display window will record
the filters as they are set, as will the Filter Display Graph in the Remote
Control Command View window. |
|
| 7 |
Pause
raising the gain, and move the microphone to another area where it will
be used. Resume slowly raising the mixer gain, until FBX eliminates a
few more feedback tones. |
|
| 8 |
Repeat
until the SETUP indicator automatically turns off and the READY
indicator comes on. The FBX Turbo Display window will warn you when the
last two filters are about
to be set. Get ready to reduce channel gain after the last filter sets.
NOTE: You may quit SETUP mode at any time prior to its automatic exit
by simply pressing the READY button in the FBX Turbo Display window. This
will enable ready-to-operate status, but with fewer fixed FBX filters
in place. In the default factory setting, 2 dynamic FBX filters will still
be held in reserve to catch and eliminate new feedback, regardless of
how or when SETUP mode is exited. |
Any new feedback frequencies that occur after setup will be eliminated by the dynamic filters. In most instances, you will experience an additional gain of 6-9 dB before feedback when using the Sabine FBX system. All fixed filters in place will remain set until the SETUP button is pressed. All dynamic filters will remain in place until new feedback occurs (when they will move to the new frequency), or until the SETUP button is pressed. The SWM7000 receiver will remember its FBX (and all other) settings even if the power is turned off. IMPORTANT: FBX protects you from feedback for the conditions when FBX Setup is run. If these conditions change — different mics (or mic models!), performance areas, speakers, etc. — be sure to run FBX Setup again. |
