SABINE WIRELESS TAMES COYOTE UGLY

ALACHUA, FLORIDA — "We chose Sabine SWM7000 2.4 GHz wireless systems because every Sabine transmitter gets its own built-in feedback control, compressor/limiter and mic modeling, and even comes with a battery-charging mic clip,” asserts Frank Wilt of Washington Entertainment Technologies. “No other wireless has features like it!”

Wilt recently installed five Sabine dual-channel wireless microphone systems, with ten handheld transmitters, into the three-story Washington DC Coyote Ugly Saloon.

The Coyote Ugly bartenders use the Sabine handheld wireless mics to perform for the crowd while serving up drinks. Wilt mounted the battery-charging mic clips to the bar for easy access for the performers.

A longtime user of Sabine equipment, Wilt appreciates the cost- and space-effectiveness of the Sabine 2.4 GHz wireless systems. "We would need two additional equipment racks on each floor for feedback control and digital signal processing, and a six channel mixer to get the same functionality that we get with the SWM7000s," says Wilt.

Dual-channel SWM7000 receivers are rack-mounted and take 1-U of space. All receivers come equipped with Sabine's Targeted Input Processing, including FBX Feedback Exterminator, compressor/limiter, adaptive de-esser, 10 parametric filters and Mic SuperModeling™.

"The SWM7000 is tremendously flexible," asserts Wilt. "Each of the three Coyote Ugly floors has different acoustics and performer dynamics — some of the bartenders are soft spoken, some belt it out — the Sabine wireless allows us to quickly tailor each transmitter to its location and user."

Wilt color-codes the transmitters according to each mic’s DSP settings, allowing the “Coyotes” to easily spot and grab a mic tailored to their needs.

All five Sabine receivers are located in a single equipment rack on the third floor. “The receiver front panel controls are easy to understand and use,” states Wilt. “The remote control software gives me even more power and allows me to copy settings from one receiver to any number of other receivers.“

“With the Sabine units, I can monitor battery telemetry, compressor/limiter action and signal strength in real time for each of the ten mics, and then make adjustments right there on the spot," Wilt says.

Wilt relies on Sabine's complete line of antenna accessories to assure quality signal within the three-story reinforced concrete building. “On the third floor, I get great reception with the standard coaxial dipole antennas front-mounted on the receiver,” states Wilt. “For the first and second floor, I have Sabine’s external antennas flush-mounted to the second floor ceiling and feeding the signal to the remaining four receivers using a Sabine antenna distribution amplifier.”

The low-profile External Antenna Kit (SWASS-EXT) contains two antennas which can be unobtrusively wall-mounted or conveniently placed where necessary using the included mic stand bracket. The antennas have a 180-degree RF pattern and provide 18 dB of gain.

Sabine's rack-mount Antenna Distribution Amplifier (SWA6SS) reduces multiple-antenna interference in multiple system usage by allowing you to connect up to 6 Sabine SWM7000 one- or two-channel receivers, or up to 12 channels, to one set of antennas.

“The Sabine wireless makes setting up in an unfriendly-RF environment much easier,” states Wilt. “Coyote Ugly is adjacent to a massive condominium filled with WiFi networks and several construction areas with radio-equipped heavy machinery operating in the UHF band.”

“I used the software’s built-in RF Scanner to spot potential RF interference,“ continues Wilt. “The scanner differentiates between Sabine transmitters and outside interference. I can set a threshold to block the use of channels that might be interfered with."

"The Sabine wireless is a great product and we are very pleased with it,” concludes Wilt.

Coyote Ugly joins an ever growing list of Sabine wireless installations that include American Express Corporate Headquarters, Busch Gardens, Harvard University, MTV Latina and National Geographic.
