Now choose from 3 types of Phantom Mic Riders
with improved specs

The family of Phantom Mic Riders is now expanded to include the new Phantom Mic Rider Pro versions. Like the original Phantoms, these Pro versions provide solutions to overcome almost every problem you may have with a gooseneck, podium, or handheld mic.

Phantom Mic Riders are the closest thing to having an engineer in every microphone. And now you can choose from three different versions to cover any application you may have. The new Pro versions feature 110 dB dynamic range and lower phantom power requirements, allowing these to be used in more demanding applications such as performance audio, recording, and broadcast.

Create a Worry-Free Zone for all Your Unattended Mics

Imagine someone shows you a product that solves every major problem you’ve had with a microphone (including poor mic technique), installs by plugging right into the microphone, and makes the power of digital signal processing completely affordable. How about if it would work on just about every podium, gooseneck, or handheld mic you ever used? A product like that could only come from Sabine, the industry leader in innovative audio products. The all new Sabine Phantom Mic Riders are the world’s first line of phantom powered signal processors, and they deliver on that dream.

And this reality comes with a list price starting at $139.95.

Elegant and simple, the Phantom is a real breakthrough. Your processing is now customizable and physically located at each microphone! Think of the applications: retrofit every podium mic at your church, school, boardroom, or teleconferencing center. Get one on every mic you specify from now on!

Phantom Mic Rider Pro Series 3: These new units provide one simple function. They are Infrared Gates that turn your mic on and off based on the presence of a person. The heat-sensing IR module is mounted on the gooseneck or is built-in on the handheld version. You can adjust the IR sensor for both time to turn off (5-15 sec.) and range (3-9 feet). These adjustments allow you to customize the gate function for any application. And the improved specs allow for transparent audio.

Phantom Mic Rider Pro Series 2: In addition to the same adjustable IR Gate as in the 3 Series, the Series 2 Phantom Pro units provide 3 audio processors: Automatic Gain Control for controlling gain as you move toward and away from the mic, Proximity Effect Control for controlling that excess bass sound as you get closer to the mic and maintaining flat frequency response at all distances from the mic, and Plosive Control, for reducing the loud pops and bursts from certain consonant sounds in speech.

Phantom Mic Rider Series 1: The original Phantom includes Sabine’s industry-leading and patented FBX Feedback Exterminator for maximizing gain before feedback, as well as the Automatic Gain Control, Proximity Effect Control, and Plosive Control. The IR Gate is also included, and this gate is not adjustable.

Typical Phantom Installation

Phantom Installation is a Snap
Installing and setting up your Phantom is extraordinarily easy. Just insert the Phantom between the mic’s base (or podium if the mic is flush mounted) and the connector on your gooseneck mic. The installation is done. The controls (hidden beneath the security cover) will allow you to make a few adjustments to customize the Phantom for each situation. Set the Phantom for your mic’s sensitivity, then set your FBX filters and tweak the proximity and plosive controls if necessary. The whole process will take a minute or two, and you are ready to go. The Phantom’s DSP will always be there improving your sound. Its like having an engineer in every mic!

The Phantom Mic Rider operating guide includes a list of common podium mics, their sensitivity specifications, and the corresponding Phantom sensitivity level setting. The sensitivity of a microphone indicates how much voltage it generates when it is subjected to a calibrated sound pressure level. The Phantom works best when its sensitivity level is set to match the sensitivity of the mic. The operating guide shows how to set the sensitivity of the Phantom to match your microphone. Check the microphone manufacturer’s web site for the most current sensitivity specifications for your microphone.

Note: Some manufacturers define the sensitivity in mV and some in dB. Follow the link below to convert between the two units.

The Phantom Mic Rider works with 48V phantom power sources that conform to industry standards (DIN standard 45 596 or IEC standard 268-15A). Devices that do not conform can be modified to meet the standard, or external phantom power supplies can be used.

Just plug in your mic and get up to
five audio solutions:

  • FBX Feedback Exterminator
The famous Sabine processor increases gain before feedback.
  • Automatic Gain Control
Controls gain as user moves toward and away from the mic.
  • Proximity Effect Control
Controls excess bass sound as you get closer to the mic and maintains flat frequency response at all distances from the mic.
  • Plosive Control
Controls the loud pops and bursts from certain consonant sounds in speech.
  • Infrared Gate
Turns the mic on and off automatically using a sensor that reacts to body heat.

The Phantom delivers benefits for everyone involved with your sound system. Whether they are loud talkers or meek mumblers, all your presenters will appreciate the consistent sound quality and managed gain provided by the Phantom. The technicians will love the fast and easy installation and setup, and they can leave the mic unattended knowing the adaptive functions of the Phantom will take care of feedback, gain, and clarity. The Phantom even turns the mic off when no one is front of it using the included, detachable infrared sensor. The audience will appreciate the clear sound and increased intelligibility, and your accounting department will love the price.

Getting a Phantom is like having an engineer in every microphone who manages the gain, drops in parametric filters to kill feedback, tweaks the EQ when the speaker gets too close, edits out the plosive sounds without affecting the audio, and turns the mic off if no one is near it. With all these features in one small package, all for such a great price,
you can afford to put one on every mic in your system.

You can also hide the Phantom by mounting it under your table or podium, and bringing the IR sensor out flush with the front, as shown above.
